ST. FDWARD'S COUNCIL 6546

CHURCH, COMMUNITY, COUNCIL, FAMILY AND YOUTH ACTIVITIES
FRATERNAL YEAR 2002 - 2003

CHURCH ACTIVITIES

The Traveling Vocation Prayer Chalice Program: Established and maintained an ongoing vocations program where families sign up for a week to take the chalice home and pray daily for vocations.
Prepared and served coffee and doughnuts one Sunday morning each month from October through April
Recitation of the rosary: Before business meetings except when 1st degree exemplifications were conducted.
Promoted Keep Christ in Christmas: Sold Christmas cards after all masses from Nov.4th to Dec.16th (7 weekends).
Maintain catholic pamphlet rack in St. Edward church: Stocked racks with Columbian magazines and other religious publications.
Conducted a Memorial mass for deceased members: On Nov. 9th. Council Chaplain, Father Donald Lemay officiated. A catered dinner followed.
Retreat: Sponsored a weekend retreat at the Holy Family Retreat house for knights and St Edward's men.
Adoration Of the Eucharist: Sponsored Adoration Every 1st Friday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00pm with a knight present for each half hour. We encouraged the parishioners and Council members to participate.
Brother Knights assisted at St. Edward's Church Craft and Gift Fair

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Monthly Communion breakfast: Prepared a parish community breakfast every consecutive month from Oct. through May inclusive during the year.
Kovar soliciting: Over 80 knights participated at 5 retail stores collecting funds over a two-day period. Ladies auxiliary collected at a 6th location.
Assisted Sick Brother Knight and family members. Provided transportation and assistance to and from CJW Hospitals for treatment.
McGuire Hospital Bingo: Held bingo for the veterans at McGuire hospital; providing prizes, food and soft drinks.
Sponsored (with other Councils) Veterans Christmas party: Supplied turkeys, fruit and deserts for veterans on Christmas Eve at McGuire Hospital.
Robious Road adoption: Picked up trash and debris along Robious road for beautification one Saturday in May and one Saturday in October.
Candlelight Carol Sing. Provided ushers, food, snacks, and beverages for St Edward's Choir Christmas concert.
Hosted and conducted Habitat for Humanity Picnic.


COUNCIL ACTIVITIES

Selected a Knight of the Month for all 12 months.
Held an awards night with dinner to honor Past Grand Knight in October. State Officers and 150 guests attended.
Held a social and dinner for knights and their families and friends monthly for the past year.
Held a social and dinner for installation of 2002-2003 officers.
Participated in the State Council Knight of the year Program
Worked concession stands at VCU Siegel Center for 15 men's basketball games.
Conducted a social activity after 3 -1st degrees, 2 - 2nd degrees and 1 - 3rd. degree exemplification.
50 tickets to a Richmond baseball game were given to knights and their families to support commonwealth catholic charities "Knight at the Ballpark"
Prepared and issued a monthly "Knightly News" newsletter.
Sponsored and conducted Golf Tournament: 20 Foursomes participated in our 2nd. annual fall golf classic.
Brother Knight's Funeral: Provided pallbearers, and recited the rosary.
Hosted the State Quarterly meeting: Provided coffee, juice, donuts, and prepared and served lunch for 260 knights.
Hosted and served luncheon for the Virginia State Council District Deputies meeting.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Miraculous Medal Novena and Rosary held weekly on Thursday at 7:30pm.
Selected a Family of the Month every month.
The State Family of the Year program: Submitted family of the year.
Held 6 Lenten Fish fries: Prepared and served over 200 people every week.
Sponsored pro-life poster contest to depict the glory and beauty of life with St. Edwards parish children.
Senior Citizen Appreciation Dinner: Prepared and served over 100 senior citizens on a Sunday afternoon.
March dinner guest speaker: A financial planner spoke about asset allocation for retired people.
Notre Dame Alumni and family communion breakfast. Prepared and served 50 family members after Sunday mass.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Father/ son Communion Breakfast: Held breakfast for sons of all ages after a communion mass in October.
Sponsored a Venture Scouting program: Donated monies for supplies and two knights attended meetings.
Conducted council Basketball free throw contest: Gave awards to all age winners.
Hosted and conducted District basketball free throw contest.
Sacred Heart Center Christmas Program: Bought clothing gifts for ten poor children from three needy families. Presented gifts to the children at party.
Held Easter Egg Hunt for all the area boys and girls, on April 19th. Hid over 500 plastic eggs with candy inside. Awarded children that found the most eggs.
